RTP, volatility, wagering requirements, concession: The language of casinos is full of terms that hardly anyone explains. Here you’ll find them all, explained in plain German and without any marketing jargon.
Each entry includes a sample calculation in francs and a section explaining what’s different in Switzerland. That’s because most online explanations come from Germany or Austria and use euros for their calculations—including legal matters and other payment methods. Here, we focus on Swiss Federal Gaming Board (ESBK) concessions, TWINT, and Swiss tax rules.
Eight categories, ranging from game mathematics to player protection. If you’re not sure exactly what you’re looking for, this is the best place to start.
The search also finds synonyms and English terms. If you type in ” variance,” you’ll find “volatility.” If you search for “return to player,” you’ll find “RTP.”

How This Encyclopedia Is Created
We write each entry so that it accomplishes three things: It explains the term in two sentences, illustrates its practical meaning using a specific example from Franconia, and identifies the most common misconception associated with it.
This last point is important to us. There are many half-truths circulating about casinos: that a slot machine is due to pay out after a long losing streak, that more paylines mean better odds, and that a high maximum payout is a good sign. None of this is true, and we’ll say so even when it’s inconvenient.
Each entry includes a review date. We regularly check legal information and figures because bonus terms, limits, and regulations change. When something depends on the individual operator, we state that clearly instead of giving a number that will be incorrect tomorrow.
The glossary is constantly growing. If you notice a term is missing or spot an error, please send us a quick note. We prefer practical suggestions to any list of keywords.
