Alongside Mastercard, Visa is the second card brand that works at all six Swiss online casinos we tested. Here you can read how the deposit works, how the Visa debit card and the credit card differ, and why the withdrawal route is a different one.

In the casino cashier, open “Deposit”, choose Visa and enter the card number, expiry date and the three-digit code on the back of the card. As soon as you confirm the amount, Visa Secure steps in: your bank wants to approve the payment, at most banks with a tap in the app, at some with an SMS code. After that, the balance is in your player account straight away.
The name on the card matters. It must match the name on your casino account, so your partner’s or your parents’ Visa will not work. Under the Money Gaming Act (BGS), the casinos are required to carry out this check.
For the casino, a Visa debit card and a Visa credit card are the same: same form, same credit. What matters is how your bank books the deposit. With credit cards, some issuers treat casino payments as a cash advance and charge interest or a fee straight away, while others block gambling on the card altogether. We explain how this comes about in detail on our page on credit card casinos.
With a Visa debit card, the question does not even arise. The money comes straight from your account, so you only stake what you actually have. That is why it is our clear recommendation for casino deposits.
Payment methods at the best Swiss online casinos, including Visa at Jackpots, Swiss4win, and mycasino.
“Visa and Mastercard work practically identically at the casino. The difference lies solely with your own bank. If you ever want to know why a payment was declined, it is best to call the card issuer directly. In nine out of ten cases it is a gambling block that can be cleared up in two minutes.”

Two limits apply at the same time: the casino limit arising from player protection and your personal card limit. For debit cards this is often a daily limit, for credit cards the monthly limit.
If the cashier declines your Visa, a short checklist helps. Did you confirm the Visa Secure request in your banking app in time? Has your daily or monthly limit already been used up, which you can see in e-banking? And does your bank block gambling payments on this card? Only a call to your bank can settle the last point, the casino has no influence on it. Until it is sorted out, the easiest option is to switch to TWINT or PostFinance.
In Swiss online casinos, winnings are normally not paid back to the Visa card. They go to the bank account you entered when you registered, usually within one to three business days. Not every card issuer supports credits back to the card, and a bank transfer lets the casino document the payment without gaps.
Paying with Visa is secure mainly because of two layers of protection. Your card details go to a payment service provider certified under PCI-DSS, not to the casino. On top of that, you have to confirm every deposit via Visa Secure, so anyone who only knows your card number will not get far. This makes Visa one of the safest ways to deposit at an online casino.
Many Swiss banks have replaced the Maestro card in recent years with a debit card from Visa or Mastercard. UBS and Zürcher Kantonalbank, for example, issue a Visa Debit. You can tell whether you have one by the Visa logo on your bank card.
The key difference from the old Maestro card: with a Visa Debit you can pay online, and therefore also deposit at a casino, without needing a credit card. At some banks this is switched off at first. At UBS, for example, you enable online payments in the app under the card’s security settings. After that, you only need the one-time registration for Visa Secure, which is usually done in your banking app.
If the casino still declines the card, a gambling block set by the bank is often the reason. The most common causes are listed above under “Limits and declined payments”.

Yes, all six operators tested accept Visa as both a credit and a debit card. The deposit is available immediately.
For most people, the debit card. Same speed, no risk of interest, and you only play with money you actually have. The credit card is worthwhile at most because of points programmes, although many issuers exclude casino spending from them.
Often your bank has blocked gambling payments on the card, your card limit has been used up or the Visa Secure confirmation came too late. All three lie with you or your bank, not with the casino.
Normally not. The casinos transfer winnings to your bank account, which usually takes one to three business days.
No, none of the six casinos we tested charges fees for Visa. At most, your bank may charge costs if it books the credit card deposit as a cash advance. This does not happen with a Visa debit card.
