Getting there & location
Locarno station (the terminus of the Gotthard line via Bellinzona and of the Centovalli railway) is just a few minutes' walk from the casino. The Lake Maggiore boat landing is directly opposite, and the regional FART buses stop right by the Piazza Grande.
From the north, take the A2 towards the Gotthard to Bellinzona, then the A13 and the cantonal road to Locarno (around 2.5 to 3 hours from Zurich). From the south, from Milan via the motorway towards Gravellona Toce or via Lugano and Bellinzona (around 1.5 hours). The casino is centrally located between the Piazza Grande and the lakeshore and is signposted.

What makes the location of the Casino Locarno special?
The casino lies between the Piazza Grande and the Lake Maggiore boat landing. During the Locarno Film Festival in August, the Piazza Grande right outside the casino becomes one of the largest open-air cinemas in the world.
History & Background
The building's roots go back a long way: in 1902 a theatre opened on Largo Zorzi, which was enlarged in 1908 and from 1910 served as Locarno's Kursaal and casino. Under the new Swiss Gambling Act, Locarno received a Type B licence, and in 2002 the casino opened in the former Kursaal, which had been renovated in just five months for around CHF 14 million. For a long time Casinò Locarno SA belonged to the ACE SWISS group, before Stadtcasino Baden AG acquired first 81 per cent and then all the shares in 2022. The Federal Council renewed the licence for the years 2025 to 2044, and gaming has been running under the new licence since 1 January 2025. In March 2026 came the move into the online business: with Casineo, Casinò Locarno SA launched the tenth legal online casino in Switzerland.
