Poker room
The Casinò Lugano does not currently offer poker tournaments or a classic poker room. Poker fans can play Ultimate Texas Hold'em against the house. Instead, tournaments are held regularly for chemin de fer, blackjack and American roulette.
Getting there & location
The casino is a few minutes' walk from Lugano railway station (SBB, Gotthard line); alternatively, the funicular takes visitors down from the station to the centre. Practically every bus line towards the city centre stops near the casino. A free shuttle service with electric vehicles also connects the city's main car parks and hotels with the casino.
From Zurich, take the A2 towards Gotthard–Chiasso to the Lugano Nord exit (approx. 207 km, around 2.5 hours). From Milan, take the A9/E35 towards Como–San Gottardo to the Lugano Sud exit (approx. 79 km, a good hour). From Varese, take the SS233 via Ponte Tresa to Lugano (approx. 33 km). The casino is centrally located on the lakeside promenade and is signposted.

History & Background
The casino's history is closely tied to the old Teatro Kursaal, one of the best-known buildings on Lugano's lakeside promenade. It was here that the very first Eurovision Song Contest took place in 1956, won by Switzerland's Lys Assia. Under the new Swiss Gambling Act, Lugano received one of the coveted Type A licences, and on 29 November 2002 the Casinò Lugano opened in the completely rebuilt Kursaal building. Since then the venue has grown into one of the highest-grossing casinos in Switzerland and has built up the country's largest slot park. At the end of 2023 the Type A licence was renewed for the years 2025 to 2044. With the launch of Swiss4Win, the casino also became the first venue in Ticino to move into legal online gambling.
