History & Background

Liechtenstein's Gambling Act of 2010 lifted the earlier casino ban and opened the market to licensed casinos. After the Principality's first casino opened in Ruggell in 2016, Gryphon Invest AG, a sister company of the Novomatic group, opened the Casino Admiral Triesen on 20 November 2019 as the first casino in the Liechtenstein Oberland. Around CHF 4.2 million was invested in the location, creating some 50 jobs. Starting with around 80 machines and four gaming tables, the offering has since grown to 99 slots and seven tables. Liechtenstein's casino market consolidated sharply from 2023 onwards: a licensing moratorium, stricter regulation and the exchange of gambling exclusions with Switzerland led to the closure of several venues, including the sister operation in Ruggell in September 2025. Today the Casino Admiral Triesen is one of the Principality's remaining active casinos.
