History & Background

Zurich was long the largest Swiss city without its own casino. That changed when the Swiss Casinos group was awarded one of the newly created Type A licences for the Zurich location. In the Haus Ober on Gessnerallee, a striking commercial building in a prominent city-centre location, the country's largest casino was built in around eleven months. On 1 November 2012, Swiss Casinos Zurich opened its doors across two floors and 3,000 square metres of gaming space. Since then the venue has led Swiss casinos in gross gaming revenue and has also established itself as one of the country's most important poker addresses. The operator, Swiss Casinos Zürich AG, is part of the Swiss Casinos group, which runs further casinos in Pfäffikon, St. Gallen and Schaffhausen. In 2019 the group launched swisscasinos.ch, one of the first legal online casinos in Switzerland; the Zurich venue's Type A licence was renewed for the 2025 to 2044 period.
